The official video game rendition of the board game Tazar, from the Chronicles of Gilderam book series.

How to Play:

Rules

  • During your turn, Move up to 2 Units.
  • Before or after a Unit Moves, it may take its Action.
  • Moving onto an occupied space causes a Battle: the Unit with greater Strength take the space, and the lesser is Routed (taken into the enemy's Garnosh). Ties repel one another and Units cannot Move through each other.
  • When only 1 Crown remains on the board, the player with the most Gold in the Garnosh is the winner. (In the case of a tied score, the last Crown standing wins.)
  • Two-Player matches - Since Player1 gets first move, Player2 starts with a Pike unit ready.

Crown  ✴1Muster → Place any 1 Unit from your reserves onto an adjacent, unoccupied space. (Reserves contain 6 units of each type.)06
Pike ▢2n/a → No Action31
Horse △4Charge → Battle, but Rout both Units, regardless of Strength. (Only used against Pike and other Horse pieces.)23
Bow 〇2Volley → Attempt to Rout any Unit within 2 spaces, with a 42% chance to hit. (Roll 2d6 and a total less than 7 means the volley was successful.)12

Terrain

  • Exiting a Marsh or ascending a Hill subtracts -1 Move (though not less than 1).
  • Occupying a Hill grants +1 Range to a Bow'sVolleys.
  • Units cannot Move through each other.

Game Modes

  • Tournament: The standard ruleset. Players may only muster up to 6 units of each type during a game.
  • Attrition: Players start with a set formation of units on the board. No new units can be mustered.
  • Deathmatch: Gold score does not matter. The last Crown standing wins.
  • Conscription: Mustered unit types are selected randomly.
  • Total War: Any unit on the board is able to muster new units.
  • Oops All Bows!: Only bows can be mustered.
